New grant for the EV Skills Body Shop program!

By EV Skills

We are pleased to announce a new $1.6M grant for Quebec body shops to provide training in electric vehicles.

Announced by the Ministre du Travail, de l'Emploi et de la Solidarité sociale, Mr. Jean Boulet, at a press conference on April 8, this investment will contribute to the development of training in basic electrical skills, safety interventions, understanding of the operation of hybrid and electric vehicles, as well as the specific characteristics related to the repair of bodywork for this type of vehicle.

The body shop component consists of a three-level training program for body repairers and painters and a specific one-day training program for estimators and shop managers.

  • Level 1 : Basic Electricity
  • Level 2 : Hybrid/Electric Vehicle 1
  • Level 3 : Hybrid/Electric Vehicle 2 Bodybuilders-Painters
  • Estimator-Workshop Manager Level : Hybrid/Electric Vehicle for Estimator-Managers

14 master trainers will train a total of 330 candidates at the provincial level, through 11 training centers across Quebec. The training will be delivered over a 30-month period.

A certification exam is to be held at the end of the program for body repairers and painters in order to validate the skills acquired throughout the training.

The CPCPA has been mandated by the CPAs of Quebec and the CSMO-Auto to submit this new subsidy request in order to respond to the urgent need for qualified workers in this sector.

The legitimacy of this program is based on the increasing national context of electrification of transportation, a shortage of manpower and the need to ensure the safety of the public and workers at all times.

We thank the Ministère du Travail, de l’Emploi et de la Solidarité Sociale (MTESS) for this renewal of confidence as well as all our partners!
